Sebastien Loeb 8:13.878 Pikes Peak 2013

Recommended Posts

Sebastien Loeb just set the new lap record on "Tarmac" at Pikes Peak Hill Climb for 2013 with an amazing time of 8:13.878. The guy is simply one of the best drivers in the world may I say better than Vettel.

Is there anything this man cannot do?

Insane effort, can't wait to see a decent clip of it. The one recorded on RedBull TV was absolute shit.

Nope your not alone... that is quite a run and hats off to him for the new record but with no dirt it's just not the same Pikes Peak IMO

since its tarmac might as well hold initial D style race, cat and mouse, that will be exciting.

I also think it's not as 'pure' being all tarmac. Times were always going to tumble, but I didn't expect such a massive dive.

What impresses me most is that Rhys Millen was 49 seconds off Loeb's pace.

Also Peugeot’s simulation software predicted an 8m15s ascent was possible.

Even a computer couldn't fathom his perfection.

Lucky it is all Tarmac. If it was Tarmac/dirt who would bother entering against Loeb?

NEMO to challenge in 2014. Now that's exciting!

Nemo isn't really in the same league as the Pug and Seb.

Peugeot have spent a massive amount of money developing the car and it is based around different rules to how Nemo was built. You have to remember that there have been some very big dollar builds and very experienced people that have taken on pikes peak but all pail into comparison to the Pug and also come nowhere close to what is rumoured to have been spent on it.

clearly that results speak for themselves. To be that far ahead of all your competition is simply amazing.

Here is a good rundown of some of the specs

I would love to see them bring it to Australia :)

I am with Boxhead on this one, we might all love our time attack cars but this vehicle from Peugeot is from another league. Just for comparison Rhys Millen's Pike Peaks car is a full tubular Daytona prototype chassis with similar power and see what the time difference is.

Talking about budget during an interview the team principle say they had a limited budget with only 8 full time employees.... it is interesting to see a lot of the parts are from mid 2000 developmental 24hr racing.

And dare I say Nemo has not been designed to run flat out for 8 minutes.

No sure if you knew the story, Loeb was going to go to F1 but FIA had declined his Super License as they think he does not have enough open wheeler experience.

I'd heard something along those lines but wasn't clear on the details and knew he'd tested an RBR car back in about 2008. He's made enough money to drive in whatever he wants so if he really wanted to get to F1 he could afford to take the next couple of years to get the open wheeler experience.

As WOY said, put simply, do you think Nemo can run flat out for almost 8-9 mins at that power level?....

Massive difference between Peugeot and Nemo! No denying Nemo is a great team and has great skill and ability but trying to compare them to Peugeot is like comparing some of us to Nemo!!!

And on Sebastian Loeb.. no denying he is a great driver but this is not a way to measure his greatness. What would someone else do in this vehicle... who knows? I love watching the race of champions, that's as close as you'll get to putting the best drivers in the world in the same cars on the same track at the same time (which Loeb has won 3 times BTW)

I think Loeb is one very special driver indeed. Pikes Peak aside, 9 x STRAIGHT WRC world champ, from memory he came second at Le Mans once while he was a full time WRC driver. He won his first ever entry into the world Rallycross championship, he also won a round of the French Carrera Cup while he was been testing different cars.

One thing I find most impressive is his ability to adapt into different cars, best demonstrated by his guess appearances in the WRC this year. He has decided as a final year at WRC he will enter into 4 rounds. So far he was won 2 of them and came second in one with one more round (French) to go. Talk about talking the piss out of other WRC drivers.

As far as my research go he is preparing for the WTCC in 2014 no doubt he will do well. I certain will miss his appearance at the Australian round of the WRC this year.

IIRC he pretty much started out as a FWD tarmac specialist, unbelievable driver, not his fault he missed the golden age of rallying/pikes peak.
