Surprised with my dyno results

Recommended Posts

Hey guys not sure if I was supposed to put this in the tech article, but recently had my ADM s15 on a dyno run and managed to get 189.3kw at the wheels, which was very surprising with my minor mods. Of course every dyno is different, but I didnt think I could get close to those numbers with the following "performance" mods;

-Stock t28

-Gktech dump pipe

-Gktech front pipe

-Apexi n1 cat back

-Walbro gss342 fuel pump

-ISC intercooler

-Apexi intake pipe

-Drift podfilter

-HKS evc type s EBC

Ran on 14.5 psi (not tuned)

Wondering if anyone else had similar minor mods and manage to get same dyno results. Because from what I've seen and read most people with similar mods plus nistune or power fc noramlly get 170kw or 180kw+.

Pretty standard stuff mate

I made 189kw's a while ago with

T28bb

Power fc

Z32 afm

Hks 3.5 catback and 3inch dump and high flow cat

Boxed pod with twin air feeds

Nismo 740's

Blitz i/cooler

Tomei sump catch can yashio factory ignition system brand new vct gear etc etc

Was on 13.5 on a turbo tech boost tee

My S14 made 180kw on 10psi with similar mods, mine is Nistuned. What you will notice though is that tuned cars are more responsive and have better torque curves.

A dyno is just a tuning tool, sadly it's looked at more as a tool to measure power which is fine if all cars compared are on the same dyno, same operator and same conditions.

I've even seen a few recent dyno printouts with 3rd gear power runs :(

So yes your numbers look good on paper but may not perform no where near as well as a tuned one with the same mods.

My sr made 192kw when it had a t28. Had a z32 AFM, 550cc injectors, fmic, 3" straight pipe and 15psi. Made 198 on 16 psi.

Thanks for your input, very informative.

Which dyno was it?

Yeah that was what I was expecting to get, from what I've read

Good numbers, but the driving experience is what really tells the story; some guys post on here unhappy with their dyno numbers, but the car pulls like a beast and drives great. Also, if you don't plan on getting a tune at least get a wideband AFM so you can keep an eye on the A/F mix. Boosting up a T28 without a tune isn't the greatest idea ever from a reliability standpoint.
