What does a normal Demister switch do?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Should a normal working Demister switch act like the fog-light switch (the one underneath the demister)? In other words does it click in, and stay visibly further in until pressed again (then comes back out)?

I still have a problem where the rear-window demister only works when I press-and-hold the switch (turns off as soon as I release it). I'm trying to work out if it's a relay problem or the switch.

Thanks

Thanks, much appreciated. That means mine is broken (and explains why my demister only works when I press and hold it in).

You can repair these, they use a piece of wire that follows in a set grove, these can get gummed up with crap and stop working, previous owner was prob a smoker..

Ah, cool. Thanks ONE_VIA_S13, I'll give that a try.

Beats finding the relay (I can feel it under the fuses but so far haven't been able to full it out). Goof to know it's probably just the switch.

could need regreasing, that wire in the groove usually has grease on it but the grease could have become old and gummy or gotten dirty
