web design feedback (basic business site for a friend)

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

keen to get some feedback on a website i threw together for a friend that is helping out with the house at the moment.

his site is for a carpenter / handyman business : http://www.archard.com.au

the site is still a work in progress and i'm just nutting out the bugs, but if you could take the time and browse around it and give any feedback would be great!

The very top part is not displaying properly on my S3 in either landscape or portrait. Rest appears OK.

I'll check chrome and Firefox when I get to my desk

the text pop up when you hover on an image is cool but a bit distracting and would probably confuse/frustrate your average user looking for home improvements

also in the portfolio section you have to click on a link after hovering on an image to get the information, bit annoying, could you make the whole image hyperlinked instead?

again, just stuff that makes browsing easier for people who aren't hugely tech savvy

I think the Portfolio and Contact are the most important things on the site and both are easy to get to so from that end its good

However with portfolio i dont know what the symbols mean when you hover over the image and i clicked on the wrong one. Might be nice to add some text like ENLARGE and DETAIL just for idiots like me (and old grannys)

Other than that its cool, my parents run a business similar the the one on the site, might put them in touch....

Design looks good but I'd change the 3rd row of textured background to something else. You've already got the shadow on there but the same texture is being used. Same goes for the footer.

Here's a few examples of what I'm talking about:

I'd obfuscate your email address unless you like getting hit with more and more spam from scraper bots...

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
<!--
eval(unescape('%64%6F%63%75%6D%65%6E%74%2E%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3C%61%20%68%72%65%66%3D%6D%61%69%6C%74%6F%3A%6C%6F%7A%40%68%61%72%64%74%75%6E%65%64%2E%6E%65%74%3E%4C%6F%7A%3C%2F%61%3E%27%29%3B'))
//-->
</script>

Just insert this in place of your a href mailto:email@address link and hey presto!

cheers for all the feedback guys!

my email is all over hardtuned and more...

gmail does a good enough job keeping spambots away (even if i do get on average 300 spam an hour, it all goes straight into spambox anyway.)

I apologize but how much you make this site. It seems to me that website development is more suitable for a large team than for freelance. You can see how professionals from Globalgraphics work if you open these design examples. If I had a choice when creating my business site, I would turn to specialists as this is a guarantee of quality.
