You get pretty much jack all without cams, but you get more lag (1000-500rpm) or in other words - less power down low.

But then again... I have read/seen cars that have done 240rwks-ish without cams. As in 240rwkw @ 18-20psi.

With cams you'll open up the top end, but you will not loose much bottom end (then what you you've already lost).

That's what I've gathered. Someone can correct me that has done a back-to-back comparison.

i would have thought it would be the opposite to what you said suspop ^^^ more low end /response, less top end and midrange.

either way you'll get good power without cams, its not needed, but you'd be better off in the long run with cams. but you'd also need a tow to the tuners with bigger cams, probably want cam gears, springs etc, so all in all add another $1000-$1500 worst case scenario.

Josh - you mean less top-end with cam?

It's defiantly not so. Your volumetric efficiency is improved in higher rev's with cams, now that more air can flow vs the pressure being made to draw air (or something like that). And volumetric efficiency (hence power) drops in low rev's. I could explain why… but no one will read lol.

Cam gears are kind of not necessary, or at least a gamble. They are kind of a bling factor for these power levels. I forgot the members name (SR_DET?) was looking to dial them in a few weeks ago. Long story short, I was proven wrong and you pretty much gain jack all in sub 260rwkw region. Then again... you COULD gain something.

213.1kw atw @ 18psi, bosch 044 fuel pump, fmic, mictotech (pos) lt8 ecu, stock s15 injectors, no afm, zaust, tuned length exh. manifold, on heavy ass 20inch rims. Did make 227kw atw but unsure of boost level as it was the previous owner that had it ramped up that high.

CA18, basically a standard head, just an exhaust cam fitted to the intake.

Quite impressive results fellas.

l was thinking of getting some poncams to go with the 2871 but after seeing some results it just doesn't justify spending more money and losing low to midrange power for the sake of maybe 10-20kw up top.

But in saying that I can change my mind quite fast LOL.

i pulled a 260kw with cams

you want cams - always get em :)

Wat other mods supporting that?? 260 is great for a 2871

you could always go for cheaper BC cams and springs, and 3071 sonny!

Yeah bc cams are cheap as from the states shipped but if i was to do it id go hks or tomei.

Lol when i talk to u last about the 3071 i ended up geting a 2871r with 52t and .64 rear hense the thread. Lets see how this pulls haha.
