how to do lobster back piping

Had a crack at doin some lobster back today with some 3" stainless.. Had to tinker with my bandsaw quite abit to get it to cut straight, would drift abit so not perfect fitment, it just a lil 4x6 hobby bandsaw tho so can't expect the world I guess but getting better after a few tweaks.

 

Only had a tig for bout a month so still learning but here's abit I did this arvo.

If you have the time and some scrap the costs are minimal.

3" or 4" 90 degree bends are expensive and the radius may not suit.

Lobster back looks cool too.

you can get nice looking welds with a mig on stainless. Theres heaps of vids on youtube of Mig like Tig. Just have to get the settings right and take your time

A lobster tip i made for my maverick out of scraps. didnt get any photos after i welded it up :(

Anyone use a formula for working out the bends?

 

Or u just pick say 5deg and cut a heap of em and see where u end up?

 

What's the best way people are using to work out the segments??

Draw up the bend and radius you require.

 

Half a segment on the straight at each end.

 

Divide the rest into full segments.

 

The more segments the smoother the bend.
