The Tradie Roll-call Thread.

Recommended Posts

Hey all

Think this thread hasn't been done. But I want to start a Tradie Roll-call thread where all the Tradies can come in, discuss their jobs, converse, brag which trade is better and whatever. But also a thread where people like myself can ask questions about particular trades and those in the know can answer and help with people wanting to get into the Apprenticeship/Trades industry.

First off I want to just get a general idea of what people do out there. Here is a format for introducing yourself to start the ball rolling:

Name: (if you want to reveal)

Job title:

Give a brief description of the job:

How did you get into the job?:

How many years have you been in the job?:

What is the pay like from beginner to your current level?:

What was the training like?:

Do you wish you had done a different trade?:

If so which one and why:

Job title: Apprentice Electrician

Give a brief description of the job: commercial/domestic/industrial company, at the moment were doing a fair bit of work (s/b upgrades. maintenance and wiring the new extension etc) at Bunnings stores, which is mostly night work lately, and on the domestic side I'm in charge of a new house atm, rough in finished a while ago and I was there doing cut outs to fill time today, night shift at bunnings again the rest of the week.

How did you get into the job?: Did work experience with my dad (plumber) and met this sparky he'd worked with alot. decided I wanted to be a big shot white collar douche cos on job search sites it said I could make 250k+ a year laugh.gif , smashed year 12 and got my 1st preference course at uni, went to uni, hated it. so I dropped out and gave the sparky a call laugh.gif 2 weeks later I was signed on as an apprentice.

How many years have you been in the job?: in my second year now

What is the pay like from beginner to your current level?: start was shit, $7.50 an hour, slightly less shit now at $9.50, can't really complain though, apprentices basically get paid to f**k up and learn from the f**k ups. What was the training like?: Trade school every friday, get a sleep in once a week and trade school is pretty cruisy

Do you wish you had done a different trade?: nope

If so which one and why: n/a
