Hey sidd, What flashes do you use when you are on location?
580exii speedlite in softbox or my Alien Bee Strobes.
For model shoots I tend to use my strobes. For wedding ceremony I try and use my speedlite as its small and compact and its easy to setup quickly.
Hope this helps.
Which alein bees do you use? how long do they usualy last on the battery pack?
I have the following:
22inch beauty dish
30 honeycomb grid
I can take probably up to like 400 shots with the batter pack at half power.
Not like you will be taking that many shots.
This is the sort of stuff you have to deal with sometimes at weddings.. Though I don't mind it but sometimes can be annoying and your white balance can go out the door.
Well.. we know whose going to win the photo comp this month lol
Bloody love your modeling pics!!
I will try and not enter those (maybe hahah)..Thanks for the kind words tho Cant wait to finish processing those pictures.
Its been a while since I have posted images:
Taken by the IPhone4:
Something different from me..
If peter can sell his blurred image for 10 million I might have a shot lol..
Met up kory, matt and few others from sau last night in the city.. Far out it was cold!!
I dont own a tripod so decided to see if i can take long exposures without blurring lol. I failed..
Anyone want to buy this beautiful pic below for 1million? Much cheaper than peters image lol..
Decided to take atleast one decent pic with the camera rested on the ground.
matt and kory cant wait to see those light painting shots!!!
Love taking pics of little babies.. so cute!!!!!
Rest are here:
man your stuff is soo good, what lenses you using?
Um I own a 24-70L, 85 f1.8, and just recently purchased a 135L.
Most of my stuff are just taken with 24-70 or the cheap 85 prime. Wish I could afford nice lenses.
But just use what you got Only way to learn and improve in photography.
Your work is great.
ah very good, that one of the two kids on the jetty, that the 85 1.8? im really after something sharp as, thinking maybe a 50mm 1.4
Dunn - With 135L. But 85 f1.8 is a very sharp lens as well. Get that first as its not that expensive.
But then again the 50 f1.4 is just as good.. eg)
Wish I still had the 50 f1.4. Sold it go to NZ last year lol.
Wow sid.. Any chance of giving me that red heads number? Haha Just playing!
Love the sharpness of that pic!!!
Soon to go get me a 50mm 1.4 or is it 1.8 lens.. Can't bloody wait
this photo turned out great
just curious if you used any flashes here or just natural light?
^^ looks like natural light
135L... hm... maybe I should get one heard a lot of good things about this lens.
but 70-200 F/2.8 II is my next lens
Just natural light there.
Tefu - Would love a 70-200 L II
IPHONE4 shots of my fish tank.. So hard to use this camera for tank shots
Both of them were so brave shooting out in the rain and freezing temps!!
Rest can be seen here:
Hope you like it.
Taken in the pitch black and little drizzle. Used the video guys ipad and phone to light up the face a tiny bit to focus lol..
Just a speedlite off camera.
Rest are on the blog.
damn man, most of those pictures are absolutley amazing..
I am looking into photography, mostly because I want to work in the processing/retouching/manipulation side...so being able to take shots would be an advantage.
Got any suggestions for a decent camera for somone entering this field? I want to get something decent, but not too overboard...how to explain...something good enough so that if I manage to get into the editing type of work I want, I dont have to upgrade making the current camera redundant.
I think the photos you posted in June 1 are probably my fav...but its hard to pick, they are all great.
here is a low res version of an image I processed a couple of days ago.
*edit* I think I might get a cannon 550D entry level dslr. found one with the 18-55mm and 15-200mm lens kit for around $900
Stu from The Hangover?
The water in above pic looks awesome, Looks like glass
Koguchi - Great work there on that image and processing looks great. There is a big market for weddings photos to be processed. As in process wedding photos for wedding photographers. Its so hard sometimes trying to edit shoot after shoot and keep on top and do everything else as well. Thats if you want to get into something like that. Just a suggestion.
Otherwise if you want to be a retoucher etc wouldnt you just be accepting client files? Do you really need to take pics? Or do you want to start editing your own pics and go from there? Why not ask other photographers who posts on the forums if you can retouch their image for free. Do like 20 or so and build up your portfolio and then start charging. Just a thought.
A canon 550d or a 7d will be a great start. All depends on your budget man and what you like to shoot etc. Maybe wait for the 5d3 to come out and then buy a 5d2 2nd hand or new. That will last you for ever.

ecr-033 - hahah thanks man.
Jay - fog layer blended in to that image. Wanted to do something different. Normally do this sorta stuff to wedding images as its not real but just an idea I had in mind.
I ended up picking up a 550D today with the dual lens kit (18-55mm & 55-255mm) and a nice littly carry bag + 8gig sd card for $1300 odd.
I like the idea of editing other peoples pictures, but I think it would be better in the long run if I take my own pictures and edit them, it will help remove copyright issues further down the track.
I joined up to ausphotography.net.au the other day and have been doing some serious reading ever since.
Straight away I had fun taking photos, I have never used anything other than very basic point and shoot cameras in the past, messing around with the settings was cool. I think I will start a thread of how I am taking photos now and over time see the curve of quality change
Sidd, when is 5D3 coming out... I am dying to go full frame... lol
In the process of re-doing my main website so a lot of pics in here will no longer work
Should have a brand new website up and running soon.
Koguchi - Congrats on the purchase. A better forum is the canon digital forums. Be sure to sign up to that one. You will learn so much more!!!
tefu - soon i hope as I want to sell my 7d (backup camera that I never use) and get the new 5d3.
yeah you need another FF for a backup
