sr20det_eagle 0 Posted November 17, 2010 Hey guys, Seems to be a few riders around so i was wanting to get your opinions on what I should do... So i've already got my full bike license but never got around to getting a bike. Haven't ridden anything for about 10 months Basically I was using a mates bike until he sold it... So my question is do i just go out and get a mid range bike say 600cc or get more of an entry level bike again to get the skills back up to par? Bikes that I was looking at were R6 or GSXR600. wouldn't go any higher than that. Or get a Hyo or Ninja 250 for a 6 months or so then upgrade? Thoughts? Danny_S15 3 Posted November 17, 2010 go the 600 straight away and just treat it with respect. you're wasting money going anything smaller cos it's just boring as shit. if you feel you're the type to try and show off in front of your mates, then get a ninja, if you believe you are reasonably responsible, just jump onto the 600. obviously for you to have your full license you have handled bikes before
TougeR34 9 Posted November 17, 2010 if you've ridden before.. go straight to the 600/750. after 1 month on my L's on a 250, I was riding a 600 at the track. Just need to CONSTANTLY remember the throttle is completely different to a learner bike, you cant just go 0-full throttle. 2-3 mm of twist will make you hold on to your pants
-Gaz- 143 Posted November 17, 2010 If you like shit bikes, yeah get a 250 or a Hyo hahahha other wise, as said. 600 (or bigger) + Respect = Good times p.s no offense to 18le and Bluey
sr20det_eagle 0 Posted November 17, 2010 I am responsible on the bike so not the type to show off infront of mates at all. Really keen to jump onto a 600, just gotta find a decent one I guess. Preferences between R6, GSXR600 or CBR600? What are some other suggestions?
-Gaz- 143 Posted November 17, 2010 You will be happy with any of the above. I have a CBR600RR Nams has a R6, Gixxers are an awesome bike. Cant go wrong with any of them. The thing I like about bigger bikes is the braking and there more stable.....and of course, speed + response and being able to do over a 100kays in first is where it's at Welcome to the Bike section too dude. Eidt - If you dont like the riding position of super sports bikes, FZ1 is the only way to fly (unless your a motard guy )....and there cheap. Super sport ftw tho hahahhaha
18LE 0 Posted November 17, 2010 Anything will be fine as long as you treat the throttle with respect so get whatever you want and take it easy for a while
Bluey 1 Posted November 17, 2010 p.s no offense to 18le and Bluey None taken Backing what everyone else says, Im on a LAMS 650 and am itching to derestrict it on they sly.
Flying180 241 Posted November 17, 2010 600 definitely. And Super Sports bike FTW. Personally i like the R6 and the GSXR600/750..
sr20det_eagle 0 Posted November 18, 2010 Thanks for the feedback. I've always liked the R6 and the GSXR Gotta start looking around for a decent one. I think i'll just stick to the dealerships and get a "discount" on gear etc. Just had a mate speak to me and said not to worry about a road bike and just get a dirt bike instead, wr450f. In the end i think the cash flow will decide for me...
RubyRS4 0 Posted November 18, 2010 I am responsible on the bike so not the type to show off infront of mates at all. Really keen to jump onto a 600, just gotta find a decent one I guess. Preferences between R6, GSXR600 or CBR600? What are some other suggestions? Thats good to hear. Normally I would recommend you go back to a LAMS approved bike to re-learn your craft ... but 250s etc are almost as costly as a decent 600. So economically, you are better off getting a 600, and just take it easy with the learning curve. Depending on your size/weight/frame you might find the R6 a little too much on the wrists, especially if you are taking long rides. The ZX6Rs etc are a little unbalanced for my liking (chassis doesn't do it for me, nor the brakes), but both the CBR and GSXR 600s are very good to ride. I would suggest the GSXR 600 2001-onwards as the throttle isn't as snatchy, especially if you fit a TRE. But I'm a bit biased as I use to race the GSXR600. But also don't rule out the Kwaka ZX7 or ZXR750. They are still an under-estimated bike, with lots of cheap ones around in good nick (as long as you sync the carbies) and love track days. Enough power to keep you happy, without getting you into trouble. And if you're a short-ass, you'll reach the ground with ease. Anyone who's ridden an RGV would be familiar with the riding position. What sort of $ do you have to spend? Dealerships will always cost you more, and finance thru them is ridiculous on interest. For the same coin, you can buy low km used, more than decent bike gear, and freight it if its interstate. That'll open up your options and bargaining power. Need any help just PM me, as I have friends in a few shops I can bargain with. Ruby
Vincent--TT 0 Posted December 26, 2010 600 mate i havent been riding over years. i got a RS125 riding for a week just as a practice ride...then bought a 99 R6 .... love the R6. 600 has better brakes, acceleration, weight more... if u can control yourself (not losing your license), bigger bike is ideal. espically, 250cc is unreasonably priced...because of the LAM law. spoont 0 Posted March 16, 2011 600cc bikes are for pussys who dont use the throttle and yes it is what u ride and yes it is how u ride its 50.50 and if u disagree then ur just trying to play the moral highgrounds card riding like a squid is just plain boring
