official NS thread here: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=448054

if your lap needs updating PM me with a link to your official timesheet :]

Had my second try at grip racing yesterday and had a blast once again.. No record times but a second down on both tracks from the first time around so I am happy with that.

Now I just need to work out how to go faster.

BTW, my name is Guy Wuoti, so you have me up there twice.

Went to Lakeside yesterday. Front splitter has improved the car again. I beat my old PB by about 2.5secs.

They were having some problems with the timing system though. Natsoft .

Apparently I did a 58.12 . I had racechrono running as well, it tells me I did a couple of 58.2's and 58.3's so it might be correct...

Hopefully they will fix the times up properly.

I'll add a video later.

yewww congrats mofo. both records now !

keen to see pics of your car! and your video too.

time to play catchup :] 57's here we come

Thanks. Hopefully by winter next year we will be well into the 57's. My trailer is getting built now so no more street rego for me soon.

Just checked the timing from the vid, best 2 laps of the day were 58.27 and 58.21 . Racechrono had those 2 laps as 58.3 and 58.2 so that seems more realistic.

Looks like I'll have to give in and put a big wing and plywood splitter on my car too... sad.gif

hopefully that and the new tyres will catch me up to you guys!

if it doesn't I might have to ditch the Tein Super Drift coilovers... don't want to do that until I absolutely had to - decent shocks aren't exactly cheap.

I'm going to build mine from acrylic/polycarbonate. I think it would look a lot neater than plywood and it's not that expensive. I'd probably get 5mm though to make sure it stays firm under downforce.

gotta do it harry ! 7 or 9mm ply for the win. m6 rods up into the reo bar plus a couple more into the radius supports and outer guards.

oh and spill the beans on your new tyres :]

sam, yours are 235 all round yea? splitter looks awesome ! sweet vid too.

I'm going with the 235 & 255 FZ201 . I've seen enough from Paul's car and yours to know they work. Plus Alan is looking after me :) So we'll be on the same rubber finally!

Can't wait for Lakeside on the 7th :)

I wouldn't use 7mm ply, 9-10 is flimsy enough. I used 2 rods through my reo, a couple of bolts into the radius supports and a few tek screws for the edges, need to find a better way to attach the edges.

I was so surprised at the difference $250 worth of aero mods made to the car.

I'm just running 225's :( . That's the widest they make RE55s in 16". I'll probably get a set of 17x9's next time I need tyres.

respect for the skinny 225's ! yess 255 is a LOT of tyre for the rear of these cars. gunna be awesome with your driving style harry if you can light em up :]

and yea mine is 7mm with some aluminium angle to add a bit of stiffness.

lets have a gentlemans agreement from here for 2011... 220kw max power, 255 max tyre width... um what else.. min weight 1100 dry?

no worries. my puny 550cc injectors and cute little GTSS turbo are only really good for 200rwkw anyway... lol

muahah im trying to figure out the cheapest way to get E85 cranking. wonder what S15 injectors will high-flow to?

Agreement sounds good, will stop me spending too much more money.

I need to sort out a fuel surge tank before I go out again, or keep the tank above half.

ebay 60$ 2L surge tank + walbro inline pump, the challenge is to make it not stink the car out.

couldnt resist, going to QR tmrw to have a go

If it goes in the boot I'll be making a sealed box for it, hopefully that will keep the smell down.

I'm going to see if there's anywhere under the car it can safely fit, my XR one is mounted to the side of the chassis rail, not sure if the silvia has enough room though.

pretty sweet day yesterday at qr. 9 sils sprinting !

struggled with traffic and just being slow in the first 2 sessions but finally found some pace in the last session.

copied your racechrono sam :] cheers

speed trace isnt entirely accurate though. bugger

list updated, nice improvement by glen who pulled a 1.5sec pb out nowhere in the last session too !

That's why I don't go to weekend sprints anymore, there's always so much traffic. You always spend half the session trying to find a gap.

It always looks like your car has a heap of understeer on the videos, you use heaps more lock than everyone else seems to, it looks weird.

With the racechrono thing I find somewhere I'm braking and trim the vid to that.

yea i guess it feels good to me. might not show up in the vids but the rear really steps around nicely on entry to the fast ones.

but yea now that i watch it does push mid corner a fair bit.

i guess i have the balance pretty much right for lakeside and i dont wanna mess with it too much over boring QR.

9 sils again at lakeside today for the time attack day! list updated, top 30-cutoff time improved by 2.5 seconds!

after finally having the chance to drive lakeside, i can see why QR is considered boring ! Lakeside is a blast to drive, definately gonna take much longer to learn the proper driving lines etc compared to QR.

are many of you guys going to the next Timeattack @ QR (Nov 23rd)?

interesting. so iv just confirmed after reviewing my video, that QR's timing is innacurate.

on a 4-lap uninterrupted run,

pause as i cross the finish line and write down the timestamp in the video editing software

first lap = 2:02.04 = 122.04 seconds

end of 4th lap = 5:56.32 = 356.32 seconds

=VIDEO timing

time to run 4 laps = 234.28 seconds, divided by 4 = 58.57 average.

QR's official timing:

59.155, 59.183, 59.899, 59.448 = 237.685 seconds total.

3.6 seconds added over 4 laps. what the.

racechrono GPS timing=

58.36, 58.26, 58.73, 58.48 = 233.83 seconds total = 58.46 average.

confirmed, camera is accurate to the second after a 1hr recording of a clock

That is interesting, I just checked my QR vids, down to the nearest frame they worked out to be 60.66 and 57.53, QR was 60.93 and 57.77. Incidently Racechrono had them as 60.66 and 57.52 so pretty much the same as the video.

Yours is miles out though compared to that. Maybe record a stopwatch with your camera for a few minutes just to check it's not that?

lol. what a joke eh.

just worked mine out off the video to the nearest frame, 25fps or .04 of a sec accuracy which iv added on top.

57.80 and 57.68 vs

57.90 and 57.93 on racechrono vs

58.42 and 58.36 QR timing

so is the whole QR listing pointless or what ! i dunno what to do.

i guess simonster was right all along :P

which gps transponder do you use sam?

Hmmm. I had heard QR's timing wasn't that accurate before, but I'd never bothered to check. It would be ok if it was always out by the same amount, it seems to vary, mines about a quarter of a second out, yours is more like half a second. At least it isn't as bad as Lakeside timing was the other week. Someone did a 27sec lap, average speed was over 300k's apparently... A few people also had 40 something lap times. They've fixed it now though.

I use a Qstarz 818x.

Can you check your lakeside ones as well?

mmm i just ordered a qstarz 10hz one :]

my lakeside laps - its harder to tell, because on my quickest lap i drove a different line over the start/finish and theres no line painted across the track as a reference.

but vaguely-

58.44 video

58.52 GPS

58.39 official. i wont complain about that one hehe.

also

58.68 video

58.72 GPS

58.61 official

lakeside im confident is pretty spot on, using the induction coil under the surface.

at least when its wrong, its WAY wrong and its easy to spot! not a sneaky 6 to 9 tenths per lap to make me feel slow when im driving the pants off it

Does Paul's TimeAttack days at QR still use his own timing system or the QR RF timing? Its been about 3 years since I've done one of his days...

Tyres are off my shopping list for now too. I reckon we should have a KU36 challenge next year. Stop the tyre wars!

And this way I can try my changes one step at a time as well. This weekend I'll try the wing and splitter (assuming I get them finished and bolted on!) on the same rubber I've been using. Next time out I'll try the 4.363 diff...

Hey guys , i dont get on this thread for a while and you have all nearly filled the page !

Good to see everyone is improving , combination of car development and learning lakeside by the look of it ..........

Afraid i will be out of the club , have HKS cams and another T518Z coming for the S14 after trying the Tomei turbo at QR and hated it - so hoping to have around 250kw atw soon :)

Should be at QR on the 23rd and Lakeside on the 2nd Dec I hope - having withdrawal not driving the car :(

Paul
