jin s13 0 Posted April 11, 2008 I personally think BJJ is very useful for health and self defence. I think this because the moves they learn are more realistic compared to the more traditional arts. I do thai boxing, but wouldnt mind cross training with BJJ

m00nie 0 Posted April 14, 2008 there is no best martial art +1 .. it's been discussed in other threads and the conclusion is that there cannot be one best form of martial arts as all have their key strong points and weaknesses.

Shakey Bones 19 Posted April 18, 2008 Wow this thread is tame compared to what I thought it would be ANY martial arts training is better than none Personally like many others who have been exposed to early UFC events BJJ and Maui Thai have proven over and over again that they are very effective however most of my friends train different styles, One Kung Fu, another western boxing, Japanese Ju Jitsu, Judo and my uncle is a 5th degree Black belt in Karate All are awesome forms of self defence that teach self confidence, disapline and self defence I have seen first hand how good Judo and Kung Fu are in a street fight and they were very effective. I have seen with my own eyes a one hit kung fu strike to the side of the head which put someone out for 15min, and a Judo throw in a real life fight with someone about 20kg heavier getting the wind knocked out of them enough not to want any more. SoulHaylo 1,451 Posted April 18, 2008 i've only just recently discovered krav magav cos my workmate has done that for life n has been teaching me it's pretty cool cos it's very applicable on the streets when you wanna completely attack someone in a split second. i could make good use of this one day. badkarma85 0 Posted April 18, 2008 Krav Maga is certainly one of the deadliest.
Karbonyte 33 Posted April 19, 2008 But its not a Martial Art. It's a Military Combat System. F*cking deadly though.
180GO 1 Posted April 20, 2008 There are plenty of systems that run along the lines of Krav Maga. Some with quite alot of science behind it too. It just seems to have been marketed better. Karbonyte is right in saying it is not an art but a system although I believe Krav Maga has taken a liking to Muay Thai and BJJ, last time I checked anyway. Like alot of reality type systems they change with whats works. It's the principles, mindset and tactics behind it that make it effective.

I know the debate will never be settled but people who really appreciate the art could atleast listen and know thai boxing was originated and taught to them by the Khmer empire.
