New guy moving to Oz!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm Lewis and I joined the forum to gain as much info on the Australian drift scene as possible!

I am moving from the UK in December and will be spending time in Sydney firstly, then hopefully the Gold Coast and will be heading to Melbourne in March to watch the Formula One!

I am an Automotive Design Engineer with a degree in Motorsport Design Engineering and will be looking for the best area to move to in order to pursue my career in Motorsport so that will be my primary goal for where to locate but my secondary goal will being as close to the epicentre of the drift scene as possible!

Where would people suggest the best place for me to go?

I have been involved in drifting since 2012 whether it be building cars, drifting or just socialising at events and taking pictures, love every aspect of the sport!

I will post some pictures of my S13 drift missile which was having 2JZ-GTE swap and my 450hp Brian Crower SR22'ed s14a.

Oh and will post some pics of my shots from UK Matsuri's/BDC events etc for you all to see :)

Adelaide has a pretty good scene and the police leave us alone more than the eastern states, also we have a state of the art track being built about an hour out of the city in a place called tallem bend check it out.

Goldcoast/Brisbane has a fair bit to offer, plenty of track time out at QR, you can also check out secretdrift.com for info etc

I have briefly used CNC whilst at Uni but I am currently a CAD Engineer so create 3D models and 2D drawings, we make exhaust flex/load supports, turbo oil feed's and drains and EGR cooler/heat exchange units for the main OEM's. Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Ford, McLaren, Volvo, VW etc etc

I would love to expand my skillset though and I would be looking for more of a CNC/Programmer job which is more hands on, if you can offer a position that is.

if your able to draw/program CAD you might be off interest

you don't need to be spoon fed and showed how to do things right? sit you in front of a computer and away you go ?

can you operate the CNC as well? load it on changing tooling bits and all that sort of shit ?

if your able to work unsupervised with out having to be spoon fed is the most important thing

CNC I wouldn't be too confident with without a bit of training and supervision but it wouldn't take me long to pick it up.

Its a massive downfall that we have no manufacturing at our R&D facility but my superiors are pretty clued up on it all and I can start learning things in preparation if you can give me more details.

Where are you based and what do you do? PM me details if you like.

If you're going to be in Adelaide around November to march and are qualified in fitting and turning, boilermaking or welding mig, tig, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, give me a pm I might be able to give you some casual work for a few months and also help with silvia chassis cars.

Hi there, I have only picked up a welder once in my life to weld my diff so probably not skilled enough to take on anything like that without some help or training before hand but thanks for the post.
