  1. Hi everyone, Ca18det all oem , just better intake and exhaust ..raised boost to 1.1 bar and retarded timing via cas by 2 degrees. Dyoned 255hp/290nm and ran strong with healthy compression. The oher day driving it absolutely normal without excesive abuse... it started missfiring , lost power , black smoke. Removed spark plugs ( first 2 grey color proper burnt) (3rd and 4th black.. gas smell) I thought it’s just smthn wrong with coils or plugs ... Left the car to cool down... then tried to start it as cold ... while cranking it literally sounds like no compression in one or two cylinders at all .... Starts on 2 or 3 cylinders and when trying to rev ... i can clearly hear smthn ticking in the back of the head ... .......... any thoughts and ideas ? I will try them all. PS I worked on engines.. just never on a ca18det before
  2. Hey guys! This is my first post here but I really needed some clear answers. Have tried googling but everyone seems to have red-tops for this. Anyway, I was about to dump some money into my car (front mount, cams, ecu, injectors etc) but decided to do a compression test first to make sure everything was good. The car has done 95,000kms (both body and original motor). However my compression results have slightly worried me as they seem to be seriously low. Cylinder 1: 122PSI Cylinder 2: 121PSI Cylinder 3: 119PSI Cylinder 4: 119PSI This was done on a hot motor (driven around for around 30 minutes then tested straight away) with the throttle fully open. They are next to perfectly even across the board but am just concerned with how low they are. The car drives perfectly, does not feel sluggish, no hesitation on boost, doesn't burn oil etc. Just has me a bit concerned now is all. What do you guys think?

(mods done 5 years ago) Greddy forged pistons Forged H beam connecting rod ARP head studs Balanced bottom end High performance cobalt iron rocker arms TOMEI Oversize Oil Pan kit Cusco Oil Catch Tank kit with custom made AN10 braided hose fitting Custom made Inlet Piping kit Z32 Air Flow Meter Spitfire Direct Ignition system
  4. I've got a CA18DET with 150,xxx km on it. Crashed it a year ago and only scrapping it now (I couldn't find a clean S13 to replace it) Anyway while attempting to sell it, I did a dry compression test on the engine with the results: 1: 100 2: 90 3: 95 4: 0 I've tried it several times (dry & wet) and could never get above 0 1. Why are the possible reasons I'm not getting a reading? Currently my only thoughts are an intake/exhaust valve is broken 2. How low does compression have to get on the rings before it starts to blow smoke? The engine doesn't blow smoke at idle or under load, so I'm surprised at how low the readings 3. Can other items influence my result, such as the cams or cas? If they can, what can I do about it I'll be trying out another compression gauge but I'm doubtful that's the issue. Any help is appreciated Cheers
