They can be adjusted to eliminate bump steer and alter other rear suspension traction settings to improve suspension response. This reduces the contact patch of your tyres and thus available traction. Rear camber arms will correct this issue. I'm sure most people have seen suspension arms with busted welds. We don't have this issue as none of our suspension arms have any welds. (NOTE: the traction and toe arms in the photos on our website have welds on the U end piece, the final version which is in production now will NOT be welded) We understand the importance of a good camber arm and there were a number of requirements that were give to our engineer in the brief to ensure that these new V2 camber arms were the best on the market; light weight to reduce unsprung weight, strong to ensure they didn't break, have an angled end to ensure that low cars or cars with subframe risers didn't have issues with the camber arm hitting the chassis rail, and they needed to have good adjustability. Weight, adjustability and an angled end are easy, strength on the other hand in critical and as such, we hired the services of a Melbourne based engineering firm that is renown for being the best of the best to run an FEA analysis for us (Finite Element Analysis). The image shown with arm in purple is what is called the "FEA mesh" and is used as the basis for and FEA. Here's how the process works: • 3D models are created from 2D CAD drawings • A basic representation of the wheel, upright and suspension links are included in the test to allow more representative points for load application and constraints • Suspension hardpoint locations are measured within a tolerance of 5-10mm And the end result: Based on the loads and assumptions used, the arm is certainly strong enough for the intended application, with stresses remaining well below the yield strength of the material • The safety factor for the static loadcase when compared to material yield strength is ~1.35 • Basic fatigue assessment indicates the arm is capable of sustaining over 1 million cycles of the assumed 1.2g cornering load which equates to 5 x 1.2g cornering loads every kilometer for 200,000km – this is considered to be conservative for this vehicle application. You will be hard pressed to find the above sort of information for ANY camber arm or suspension arm on the market.
