Go kart clubs can come together to build their own track, Y cant we?
yeah yeah i know alot of the west side guys think VicDrift is gay or they dont like Callum or they dont like all the rules. The club is controled by its members...........and since theres nearly more board members than members, how can the club be changed into somthing you like?
Because The VicDrift club is a proper registered club, if we were to have enough members we could approach a bank and ask for a loan to build a "DRIFTLAND", which in turn would belong to the members.

Good idea in theory untill you start to look at the costs invovled.
First obstacle is land, it's not cheap and the location needs to be relatively close.
Then you need to get all sorts of permissions from the council.
Next obstacle is actually building the track. What materials would be necessary. You'd need a form of asphalt that won't shit it self after it's been hit by spinning tyres all day.
Insurance problems?
All comes down to cost.
I'd defiantly be interested in such a project and would assist in the building of a facility.

hey
well i'd be down for this... but 1k... man that'd wanna be free entry and shit all year any time i want....
the only way this is gonna work properly, is there are certain hours its open, and members can rock up any time they want, such as a go kart track...
pity is, people will never put 1k towards something such as this as drifters are tight wads at the bes tof times....
i'm down tho for sure.....
just get gates where someone is on them and doesnt let non mebers in hahaha

90% of drift cars here have either missmatched pannels, matte black/DIY spray jobs, missmatched rims/tyres, no wheel alignment ect
50% of them do petrol runs
90% of them do tyre runs
50% of them have no licence
30% have no jobs
90% make less then 300 a week
99% will keep doing it even if they are in their mid 30s and broke.... yallambie??????

and some how they are gonna fork out 1k????????????????????
as much as id love to, i know right now i cant

Yeah there are heaps of options on the table atm and this is the long term goal of the club. Where theres a will theres a way. Guys please remember we are a fully registered non-profit organization that puts all the money back into advancing the sport. We have new membership packages coming up next year. We will be doing a press release over the next 2 weeks with most of the details for next year.

how many vic drift board members are there.
Would we be able to approach the government for some financial assistance? Could pitch it as a low level motorsport facility that teaches the basics of car control etc

They have DECA, Sandown and Winton for that, where they already know there are guys there with 20-60 years experience teaching.

1k is nothing to be able to have access to a drift specific track. in reality it may be more than 1k for the yearly membership.

The Go Kart Club of Victoria's (Westgate track) land is actually leased off the government on a 30 year lease. Club wouldn't need to buy land as government would happily rent us land as we promote safe motorsport.

good point lukeyz.
i also believe that i have heard callum mention that there would be possible moneys from either TAC or Vic police, or maybe even both.
There is a place in the east subs where a guy has land and wants to build a track there, we just got to talk to him i reccon.
it's under hi voltage power lines.
imagine fully smokey drifts under the lines as a lightning storm hits the lines

Hmmm if you could get enough people to pay $1k+ a year it may be sustainable.
How are you going to raise the intial capital though?
Who would be willing to back the initial start-up? What security could you offer the bank?
What other income streams apart from Membership fees would there be (corporate days, drift events, training etc)? Any potential backers and providers of finance facilties will be extremely interested in this. I couldn't see it getting off the ground on a member only basis, you will need to provide for other revenue making oppurtunities.
Dont forgot to factor in some substantial legal fees to get this all going and to assist with permits, applications etc
Just a few things to think about, building the actual track itself will be massive $$$ so i think your first hirdle will be finding the funds to build it.
As someone suggested offering the option of a lifetime membership ($3-5k?) as an incentive to the first group of members may help with the intial start-up costs.

you best bet for purchasing land is to go to a small country town and asking their council, there have been some cases where town shires have given land away for free on the condition that the facility you build on it creates jobs for locals,
eg: hire a groundskeeper, an on-site mechanic and a tyre fitter full time and the land is FREE!!

Yes, absolutely. I'd pay the 1k, help with labour etc. I can't afford it, but I'd find a way. In reality I'd think it would cost a couple mil to set up a track though. I couldn't see it as being a sustainable option if it was a members only gig.
Ideally you'd have a full track which could be sectioned off completely for beginners and advanced areas. Fast curves, technical sections, straights, banked curves, a skid pan etc.
Organising insurance will cost you a fortune.

deffinately a good idea there, 1k membership is nothing. it only seems like alot. but if you hit up calder park and winton often, ull easily get that amount during the year
its just that its 1k upfront, makes it seem alot more then it really is
