I figured as pretty much every other uni has a thread in NS vic at the moment, i thought i should make one up for deakin, just to piss everyone off
Anyway, im starting this year, doing a batchelor of commerce - sport management. I originally had deferred for the year but plans have changed and i rang them up and reversed it so im now enrolled there as of today. I missed the enrolement day last thursday so i dont know what i missed out on there?
Anyway who else is going to deakin this year?
Another concern i have is about parking prices....mainly monthly/yearly passes on grounds.

I was at Deakin 3.5 years and finished up last year. Only ever bought a permit in the first semester I was there, rest of the time I pretty much just didn't pay except for say a 20cent ticket here and there just so it looked like I had a ticket on my windscreen. Received 2 parking fines in total which were $25 or so. Although be wary, start of the year the inspectors are a lot more active and finding a car spot is ridiculous, few weeks into it it generally eases up some more.

My mate who i planned to travel with ended up going to uni, as did everyone else, and i didnt want to travel alone. So i figured i may as well get a year out of the way and see how i feel, could defer for a little next year some time.

PLEASE READDUSA is Deakin's Student Union as you probably know. And a couple of years ago Union membership was conpulsory.
Now if you recall the Howard government around 2 years ago increased hecs (now known as HELP) by 20% i believe. So for the average 3 year degree the student would have to pay around $3500 more on HECS/HELP!
And when these changes were suggested and being implemented, who fought for the students rights? Who opposed these changes? Ofcourse all the Student Unions.
So what did the howard government do? Made it ofcourse so that you didn't have to join the student union.
So everyone is saying i am so happy not to pay 130 bucks a year for three years. 390 dollars?
So basically the Howard Gov, made out as though he is doing students a favour when at the same time raised hecs.
So you are paying $3500 more but now dont have to pay $390The Howard government is known as very Anti University. I seriously do not know why, it is always good to promote a high education level in a nation.. :/
So instead he wants us to pay more when the economy is good. And where does all the money go with this economy, into promoting the housing boom so that housing prices go up and all the other infrastructure fails due to lack of funding.

Dusa is a good way to meet new people if you get involved with their community I guess, they do have a booklet telling you what they do and activities they run, im not a jock so it probably wont work for me so well (Although I would love to go skydiving, and metro nights sound great)
