Okay so the other day i was day dreaming about sh*t like usual and the thought crossed my mind about dropping the engine out of a VS commodore (3.8L ecotec v6) in my s13! It was a thought that i passed off pretty quickly but it seems one of my mates had the same thought. So we started discussing various things about weather or not it would work or even be worth it. I suspect alot of people will disagree with this idea, but it would be nice to hear what everyone else thinks about this idea.

Buick 6 is a mad conversion. I like them more than the ecotec but the ecotec makes more power. May as well slam in an L67 if you're going to go through all that effort.

I know there's plenty of other 6cyl options available but this was just an idea. The other thing is the car is going to be taking on the life as a drift machine so i dont suspect the commodore engine would be any good??

Laaaaawl!

But only chop the rear springs.

But on a serious note make sure you get a single pegger so you can wow all the bitches with your single pegs, I probably have some Calais badges lying around and even a chevy bage

Like i said i passed the thought off pretty quickly just wanted to know what people thought haha. And as i expected its not a welcomed idea lol!

Probably wouldn't be completely stupid for a drift missile car. Engines are cheap as shit aren't they?

I like this idea. I think I am going ti do the same idea except I have an older commodore engine. Its a 2 liter engine called a starfire but its should be good still its not that much difference in cubic inchimeeters comapred to a moo motor.

alright, this might cause a stir..

i had an idea the other day, buy a cheap s13, probs an auto ca, then get a grinder and cut the floor out of it.. remove the engine and box and just wheel myself around like im on the flintstones.. that way, when im drunk walking home and maccas wont serve me cause im on foot, i can go home, grab the sil, then wheel myself back down there and get some fat feeds..

i already have the s13, it just needs the floor cut out ;)

OP: worst idea ever, as was said above, its already been done, and if your going to go to that much effort, put an LS? motor in there..

Experience: old roommate bought a VP commodore off another mechanic he worked with. Had a standard ass R32 RB20DET, with a frontmount, and... that's it. RB gearbox, hydraulic handbrake, and that's it. Looked like a white commodore, but went ZUTUTUTU, and people didn't know where it came from. Hauled ass so much more than the 3.8 it replaced, which on paper only has a massive 127kw.

I think it has potential for entertainment.

If you're deep in bogan-country, then an Ecotech in an import would be like a Thai girly boy. The locals wouldn't know how they feel about it.

I gotta admit i agree with what most of these guys are saying the ecotec is prob not such a good idea

But in defense of the l36 if you have the coin you could go an aftermarket supercharger kit, im not 100% sure as i dont have 1 but it should be able to make roughly 160 - 170rwk
but keep in mind most of those kits new start at around $4000 i guess the question is how much coin do you really want to throw at this just to be different?

as in wizards example the RB20 would run rings around an l36 and in the long run prob work out much cheaper

just my 2cents

F&ck the haters i have a 180 with a 3.8 manual sitting in it in the shed. Almost finished the engine mounts for it. Its fits like it was meant to be the shifter even lines up. Doin it for a cheap practice car. Stuff rbs and the like you cant pick one of them up for $100 when you blow ya motor! Look for 180 for the haters in the build threads for a few pics

A heavier engine that doesnt rev and makes less power, i cant see any reason not to do it!

I can shit my pants yeah it would be funny and entertain people but something's just shouldn't happen ie this idea

Want cheap shit just buy a commo if u crash just burn it n claim insurance, I hate commodores but I'd rather someone use it as missle than a S chassis

whats funny is in the build thread on here where someone was doing this everyone was all against it right up until the engine went in and they started to see the potential for weight placement, power etc etc.

there are a lot of pro's to do it and really the main con is the "enthusiasts" need to hate holden and ford so much to fit in that they can't accept it

actually yup its evocom's build thread. hope to see pics of it in action soon evocom
