Hey boys and girls.

First off, i hope the idea of this thread floats!

With all the police attention imports have been receiving over the last few years it is starting to become apparent that we need to make some 'sacrifices' where necessary. now.... With engine/bay modifications the norm has always been to have them looking 'nice' (obviously) but the problem is.... If your engine bay looks like a peacock then you are going to get noticed! and for some people, more often than not, by the wrong croud! READ: POLICE!

Soo... This is a pictorial/helpful thread for all those that are looking to build a hard as nails setup that will fly under the radar and look oem!

1. Who has had po lice overlook mods that you believe you would have got done for?
2. who has been pulled up on mods that you have had made to look stock?
3. Who has been pulled up on stock parts, that police thought were modified (eg. factory B.O.V?)

please keep this thread clean, it is NOT a means to bitch about police, simply a means to help other car enthusiasts enjoy their rides on a day to day basis.

good thread!

this was my old 180, couldnt find the latest pics, had all the silicone hoses replaced with black ones, black heat shield hiding the turbo and a black fabricated aluminium air box over the pod filter.

MY engine bay is by no means stealthy! I was simply starting a thread to help others share idea's on the best way to go about it. Maybe we should get this moved to Tech, as it seems general chat cant read the whole thing?

i like the idea of stealthiness, but i cbf spending so much money and then comprimising on performance. and i find it hard to believe that anybody would pull you over in that beast of a family car blind injustice, its as stealth as it gets before you even go for stealth!

Andy, noticed the feed/return lines for your filter are braided, and you have them half covered with black rubber wrap.
No offence, but have you ever thought of getting them wrapped up to the joiners so you cant see the braided lines at all?
Also, with your ic pipe joines, ever thought of going black with them too?

btw: LOVE what you have done with the bay, how many rwkw?

yeah mate i have been meaning to cover the lines but just havent gotten around to it,the black rubber is just to stop them rubbing on the battery..i believe approx 220ish rwkw..thanks for the positive comments :)

^^ Looks good. I'm hoping to achieve the same with the addition of Black Silicon. Red and Blue Speedflow will still be showing.

notice the lack of modifications, the lack of p plates, rims, ride height, bodykit and anything that suggests personal interest or customisation towards it

hmm, I get to be around these and HSV/clubby/senator ect all day, and they are not a bad bit of kit (for the price) these days.
If you compared to a new model Aurion (or whatever is left in 4 door turbo imports these days) they are a good buy.

Thought about going black with the cooler?

I think this thread has progressed enough now:
Time for the po-po stories.

1. Who has had po lice overlook mods that you believe you would have got done for?
2. who has been pulled up on mods that you have had made to look stock?
3. Who has been pulled up on stock parts, that police thought were modified (eg. factory B.O.V?)

The trick is to have a car that noone recognises. S12 (not mine, good friend) was pulled over - admittedly the officer in question was a rookie, but the first words he said after "open the bonnet" was "I've never actually seen one of these before". The answer was "This is all standard". Red top, 2871R, front mount, etc... not bad for an early 80's model shitbox noone knows.

I've had the police look over my engine bay twice, which is pretty obvious and been let go because:

a) Its neat and tidy
B) BOV is plumbed back
c) Gate is plumbed back.
d) Plumback catch can.

If you have a dodgy ghetto setup with Zip Ties etc, expect to get hammered.

Where ever possible I try to do thing proper and legal - eg: Cat, Pollution Gear etc.

ive been pulled over and be done for catch can not being plumb back

but they let my gate and bov slide threw because they couldnt find it
now i have my catch can return line going into my air box which makes it look like a plumb back

if it isnt a plumb back its a good idea to make it out of sight

bov is hidden behind the front bar
Posted Image

external gate is hidden but can be seen from under the car
it can also be seen from the top as well but u have to realli look for it

^^^ like your thinking..

my current build im building an alumiunm heat shield that'l bolt up to the side of the engine just below the rocker cover join and fold over the stainless manifold and slightly at the back and between the strut tower and turbo a fraction, like a bigger version of the standard ones, gonna cut 3 vents into the top of it, like the machine cut spark covers sr-nrg sells,

then whipping up an aluminium airbox for the pod and ill run the catch can breather inside that so its out of sight and still recirc looking..
will update with pics once i get it rolling....

would love to see some photos of similar setups if anyones already done it..
