yeah, and to think of the unlucky KIDS like that who get their heads blown off over there... and for what? as "Ian" says: “I love my country to death, and that’s why I’m here … and that’s why I’m fighting for my country,” i cant help but shake my head at that comment he made... these poor kids with all their patriotism... getting killed over there for nothing.

now im no bleeding heart, if australia ever got invaded i would no questions asked fight and die to defend it... but i wouldnt want to go over to iraq and die for something i didnt believe in.

i dont know..... good read, i wonder how the rest of his platoon favoured, i wonder if anyone was killed... they only reporting one side of the whole thing really, they need to show the horrors/death that he faced, then again, maybe it was smooth sailing and he didnt encounter anything like that.

hey dude you should really check out generation kill. some very interesting viewpoints.. from the rednecks that just want to shoot iraqi's, to those that are questioning why they are there, if they are doing the right thing, etc

Do you download movies/tv shows legally? I got it all from legal torrent sites.

i liken and compare generation kill to band of brothers. same deal just different times. it is portrayed the same way, in that they are all wary and what the F** we doing here why others are all like, let's kill me some nazis! so anybody interested in generation kill should get band of brothers too! and for some light entertainment to cap off the seriousness get inglorious basterds! was sick! especially the bear jew for all those that have seen it. but yeh i read this and followed the link to the denver post to see more but the link was expired. i.e. the denverpost website didnt have it anymore?!?! can anyone find the link to the rest of the story?

also imagine when they followed this kid if he had actually died!!! that would have been different! scary yet sad at the prospect of it all. i believe we are in afghanistan for the right reason, but never agreed to iraq, which was all about revenge on george w bush's part and toppling/getting rid of saddam! yes life in iraq is only somewhat better and has more technology but lots of people are getting killed there still. a bombing a month or so ago was caused by the local police/army! they blamed terrorists but when it was investigated it was found to be police who were behind it! SAD they killed over 150 people and injured 500+

afghanistan is about making the country safe from terrorism and the taliban. and about installing democracy, even though i have heard afghani's say that they will just go back to the way they were once the americans leave! (was on news that part lol!)

nope... kids these days need some form of real patriotism in there lives, not this Aussie pride, southern cross bullshit.

if something like conscription was enforced in Australia the country would be a MUCH BETTER place.

DISCLAIMER: by conscription i dont mean forced to become a grunt, run around the bush and shoot shit, but join the ADF, get a trade and serve there time.
that way they go in, they have a job for xx amount of years, earn a trade and can leave the ADF with there ticket under there belt and SH*T load of life experience under there belts.

Meh, I really have no patriotism, leaders and borders change every day. No point dieing for that. There's a lot of countries out there, but you only get one life.

I know this is a generalisation and I'll cop alot of flack for it, but I have a friend whose bf are in the army, and have known a couple of other guys, and I've never met more macho dickheads in my life, maybe it's just the people I've met, but the random fights at clubs, tough guy attitudes just piss me off.

I did had a mate at uni from Singapore where they've got compulsory military service, he was a good guy and said he got a lot of life experience out of his time there, but to me, I'm always in favour of having a choice.

what makes you think Australian soldiers dont have a choice in what they do?

and as for the random fights and macho attitude... they were most likely grunts.
thats just how Infantrymen are, they are the ones on the front line and there job is based around brute strength and attitude, so you'd expect some of the best soldiers in the world to give a bit of lip when there pissed off.

Nah, I meant in the hypothetical case of conscription or compulsory military service.
