Without knowing the specifics of this particular collision, are you really arguing that drivers need to be educated to the risks of excessive speeds in heavy fog, as suggested by the posts above?

A 5 year old can identify and understand the risk under those circumstances...if there is a driver out there who doesn't, then they shouldn't be holding a licence!

Driver Education wont do nothing, how many times a week are there 'Speed Kills' adds, How many times a week do you hear of Fatal Accidents involving speed.

If its not sinking in when you see it week after week of people die'ing due to car accidents then a Drivers ED class wont help.

All you hear is people making excuses oh the government oh the government, its not the Government in your head saying 'lets go off the clock'.

sorry when i say driver ed, i mean it very loosely. from harder tests to get license, a sort of compulsory program/class befor you get your license(like where accident victims come in and speak). not just adds on tv where you pretty much switch off and dont acknowledge coz you dont have to.

i dont really want to start a debate so ill just end it here

Using my statistical guestahmation.. that would be about 80% of the drivers on our road that SHOULDN'T hold a liscence because of the dumbf**ks that they are.

Does your analogy mean that a 5 yearold should also be able to drive if he/she possessess a greater driving ability and larger awareness than most drivers that DO hold a licence?

Adds are scare tactics. Adds do not 'educate' in the extensive way a driving course would.

In Italic: You can 'speed' in just about any car. So here you have stated EXACTLY why the argument that "P platers should not drive high powered vehicles," and "carrying more than 1 passenger on red Ps is illegal," is an absolute load of shit, and means NOTHING.
You cruise around in a high powered vehicle.. cool.
you cruise around with a few mates in the back.. cool .. THAT will not cause an accident.
Yet speeding will. .. So they make laws in a feeble attempt to prevent speeding, and make it look like that these laws work.. They apply restrictions.. yet it does NOTHING.
Driver Education me that

well that sad fact is, no amount of regulations, fines, fatal accidents scenes, speed limits or car limitations will stop these kind of crashes... people only seem to learn from their mistakes, but even then, that doesnt always happen

and unfortunaltely when they do stack it, friends get hurt or killed, or the drivers themselves get hurt or killed. stupid price to pay isnt it? but thats people for you, no amount of education or regulation can change that

And I totally agree.

However most of the general public love the idea that the government can change all this with a few laws and restrictions.
They are then told it has.
Shit is blown way out of proportion, certain 'facts' are ommitted, and only certain statistics, which are generally biased towards how much good the governments laws and initiatives are doing, are promoted.
Everyone will sit there saying "thank god the government is doing something about this." .. when in actual fact, it barely changes a damn thing.

*R.I.P* driver , and condolences to his friends and family. hope everyone recovers

Just 1st thing i would like to state im not looking for a debate, just portraying a point.

yes you can speed in any car, the government knows this. But it is clearly easier in a high performance vehicle. so there tactic. is the drive slower cars, mabye they will get sick of having to wait 15 seconds to get too 100. and not bother and slowly get over the excitement.
ok, in all honesty, how much of a rush do u get, when u put your foot flat, boost comes on, and bang, you flying. and all this happens in a few seconds. so you have speed, adrenalin , an in-experienced driver.

i am a P plater with these restrictions, and i HATE them. i have a 180. and its SR20de, and it kills me. but there has been so many times, ive had some real D!ckheads in commies, or whatever, try and race, me, they see a P plate, and try and prove they have a bigger penis by whos cars faster. and these are the idiots, that cause accidents. as dumb as they are, death should'nt be the way to learn what not to do .
i do agree with you, they should have some sort of class, where people that have been in server accidents come in and explain their story, i was in a bad one, told all my mates, scared the sh!t outta them all.

I'll think you'll find that crashing the car is what killed him, not the speed he was going. If we taught people how to control cars he probably wouldn't of crashed, but it's much easier to just put speed camera's out and hope people slow down.

Yeh I can totally see where your coming from there aswell.
I guess what I'm saying is, the laws do very little in terms of 'stopping' these sorts of things happening. Yes it reduces it.. on a VERY minimal scale. Hardly enough for anyone to notice.
That's why I think there has gotta be a better way to do this. Most people I talk to still agree on driving courses (defensive, advanced, etc etc).
You see tragic accidents involving young people and speeding and the immediate reaction by the public is "SHIT.. MAKE MORE LAWS TO BAN THESE CARS." .. not "if he had the right attitude this may never have happened."
Funny thing is.. this shit is gonna start happening more and more with cars that aren't 'high performance vehicles,' .. so theres not many more restrictions they can place on already gutless cars.
I think it'll be interesting to see what happens after this.
My guess is nothing.. and the restrictions on high powered vehicles will just stay as they are.

If you look at SA's road toll this year (it's about 20 or so up on last year) it just shows that people don't give damn about speed cameras and these laws. People are always going to speed so we need to make sure they have the abilities to handle it.
