Hi Guys,

I finally got some decent sized rims (SE37 I beleive) on my 180 which are at 17x9.5 +16 (or maybe even +18) stickers are gone :(

Anyway, the rubber is slightly stretched (235/45R17) all round and for the rear it just sits under the lipped guards... But it then it goes mexican on me.

I'm hoping to borrow a guard roller off anyone just so I can bring the guard out a little more.

Hook ups will be on the cards... Coronas or $$$ maybe work something out?

I'll get some pics up today so you'll get the idea.

Also with the front... anything I can do for the front too? I'm not keen to rip the guard lining off. Any alternatives?

Cheers,

Andy

Edit: I ain't doing a ghetto spec roll cos I want to keep the paint on my rear guards ^_^

Pictures up...

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

The height currently sits a little higher than I like as obviously I need a bit of a flare to accommodate. But this gives you an idea.

Fronts... I've put back my GRT32 rims as the Rays SE37's are too big and looks like I'll need to go wider front guards or roll and flare. Anyone modify or custom make plastic lining? I really want to continue to run a lining under the guards... Although, looks like I may not get best of both worlds :(

You have to remove the guard lining on the front to roll them. There is no other way around it.The lip that needs to be rolled has the holes that the lining clips into. Mine has been out for ages and I have had no problems. DO IT!!

Nah I'ld prefer to do it myself as I previously got Athid to do the lipping to the rear a while back so the hard part is done...

It's just a matter of using the guard roller now to create the flare.

I beleive Damo has given me the hook ups so I think I'm right for next weekend.

But suggestion on what I should do up front would be great ^_^

Yeah I knew that would be the case... The guard lining really limits the space under the front guard. Wish it was made to tuck under closer to the guard, such a waste of space.

I'll see how it goes... Maybe even go wider guards which definately rules out the lining.

Cheers,

Andy

^ Yeah I think I should be right... I'll be very conservative with the rear flare... Heat gun and minimal flare, I don't think I can go wrong

When Athid did the rear lipping I watched from start to finish so I'm pretty confident with how it's done. He did the hard part and I can use the points of where he lipped as a guide.

Also if I do end up lipping and flaring the front, I'm sure it will be much easier then the rear (I've seen great results even with a hammer too so it'll be pretty straight forward). If I stuff that up it's an excuse to go wider front quarters hahaha ^_^

I reckon the failed attempts you've come across would be people with unaware bogged panels... Which I don't have.

Cheers,

Andy

surprised you'd put some buckled wheels on your car andy

180 rear quarters tend to dent above the arch when you flare, just gotta be careful

why dont you just lower it and it will tuck in 17x9 +16 will fit under a standard lipped guard. i wouldnt be flareing it if youve never done it before  will have a nice little dent if your not careful even if you use a heat gun. lower it so its sitting right and you'll be suprised how dynamic camber works on a IRS setup lol. or go for it (anymore than 15mm give or take and it will crease).

Nah Vu it's not as bad as it looks in that last pic... it's just rashed up pretty nicely lol <_<

I need to get the wheels cleaned up and redone (maybe in that Takata green?) so I'ld be looking at getting it straighten up...

Yeah I won't be going anywhere near 15mm... I'm only going to go another 5mm or so and drop the car so the rubber will sit under a bit.

Since all you pro's are recommending me not to do it myself... How much will you charge to do already lipped rear guards?

Thanks boys...

Andy

if its already lipped just lower it it doesnt need to be flared. also no, remove the guard lining it will rub. and hammer down the seam at the rear of the tire (front end)

probably looking at $60ish a guard.

we fitted these to rorys r32 4 door. you really need to run a 215/40 on the front to fit it better (iirc its running 235 all round?)

^ That's right Roy hooked us up... You guys did a top job with his and Locky's guard work!

They're 9.5" wide and run 235/45R17's all round. Ideally I would like to run more of a stretch for the front but the 235's meant for the fronts still have plenty of rubber so not keen to change until it really is a necessity lol ^_^

When you say seem do you mean the front guard or the seem on the body of the car in the wheel arch?

Thanks Neil...

Cheers,

Andy

Just get Athid to come around and do it for you man, it's easier to roll the inner lip in but much harder to do the flare and get it right! I could almost guarantee if you flare it you will fk it up, will look wavey and hack

Either take it to Neil or all Athid and get him to come around and do it for you if you don't want to drive it

fark they stick out a bit.. I just ordered 17 x 9.5 + 15 and 18 x 9.5 + 15 for my sil! This shit is not going to be fun

Good luck!!

yeah like neil said, you could just go smaller rubber at the front, lower it and set some camber, will be easier than going wider front guards, but as i said to you on sat, your going to have to get rid of the plastic underguards i think.
this way you wont feel bad about chalking up the rears because you know you have another fresh pair of rubber waiting to go on haha

By the way Locky, I just noticed yesterday after pulling out the front pair from the hatch, they're infact not Federal 595 but Wanli tyres... Ooopps for not checking, but nonetheless

i mean the seam that runs along the back of the inner guard you'll see it when you pull the plastic liner off it runs from top to bottom. would be running a 215/40 / 215/45 up front personally.

and abu anything can be made to fit under the s13 guards  i was running 18x10 +18 under just lipped guards just run alittle camber

^ Don't forgot the pork roll as a side dish garnished with a touch of salmonella ^_^ Mmmm mMmmmMMmm <_<

So back to the topic... well kind of. I've also got hooked up with Craig from ColorUrMags.com to repair and powder coat the set... Hoping to go Takata green or similar  Found him in an old thread and spoke to him today, sounds like a champ.

Btw, Neil if you can update the sticky with the contacts... Get rid of Advanced Alloy Wheel Repairs mate. They are a joke! Stupid lady that answers the phone is clueless, and the blokes that do the work are too busy to answer my queries according to her. Also their prices are a fkn joke. Trolling through other threads back this up...

Cheers,

Andy
