Accident on Dandenong Road

It was a silver R33 (GTR? Had GTR bucket seats) that hit a tree around the bend ( just after glen ferrie road/bridge just before toroonga road). There were news crew so it will most likely be on the news. I think that the news reports will portray the incident as "street racing".
It just shows that you have to be careful on the roads no matter what your driving experience is.

A WOMAN passenger died after the car in which she was travelling ran off the road and hit a tree in Melbourne's south-east this morning.
The woman and three males were in a Nissan sedan that apparently failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a tree on Dandenong Road, Malvern, about 3.50am.
The male driver appeared to have a minor head injury and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, police said. Two other passengers were taken to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries.
The three males were believed to be in their late teens, and the age of the woman was not yet known, an ambulance spokesman said.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, and major collision investigators are examining the scene.
This fatality takes the state's road toll to 257, compared with 265 for the same time last year.

There could be a number of reasons why this accident occured, speed, rain, inexperience. You got to remember that, the part of Dandenong Road where the accident occured, the road surface is not the best. Not to mention the blind corner.

If it is, RIP to the girl, condolences to the family and friends, and it'd be good to hear that it wasn't wreckless driving related on the Nissan operators part.
Whenever I've got anyone else in the car, it's always in the back of my mind.
On the note of the passenger always getting it the worst - It's a proven statistic and study-backed fact that it's due to driver preservation. In a situation such as loss of control of a vehicle to an untrained person, the driver comes out on top because his subconscious takes over the recovery action. E.g. Will steer his side away from trees etc, without actively thinking about consequence to others int he vehicle. Although in this cause, from the vague memory I have of the footage of the car, it's the drivers side that went into the tree??
Pretty much the same for every life and death situation; the every man for himself instinct kicks in.

i thought it was due to the spin and how many spins are done. just like a piece of bread if it falls of a table will land with the jam side on the ground. however if you drop it from the top of a fridge, it will land the right way.
In the end, the driver is not in control of a spin, its to do with the physics in relation to the road surface, condition of the car and tyres and how far it spins.

my house backs onto dandenong road and is 20 metres from where the accident happened, every night i hear screetching tires, cringe and just wait for the sound of car on concret.
to give you an idea of how hard the car hit the tree, it shook my whole house and was so loud and sickening that i just lay in bed thinking 'f**k, there is no way in hell anyone has walked away from that'
in the morning i walked out the back lane and there it was right in front of me, the passanger side was litrally the on the drivers side and the car was unrecognisable.
and there was some drags going on but this happened after it had stopped, the driver was clearly going too fast around a blind corner that is uneven and doesnt offer much grip at the best of times, add to the fact that it was a gtr he was driving and alcohol may have been involved and you can see how it happened.
