Hey guys. I need to know the following: Please help out if you can.

Im about to install an r32 gtr diff into my S13.
I beleive to do this, I need to change the rear cover to an s13 item and to also change the front input flange to s13 also. Also need to solid mount the diff via the two main bolts by use of spacer/washers.

I am going to run the R32 gtr driveshafts as well, do I need the r32 gtr hubs? If they are, can someone please enlighten on the process of installing the driveshafts along with the hubs.

My s13 is already 5 stud with gtr rear brakes and drum handbrake assembly.

Let me know if you can help me out.

Also, anyone who has put an r32gtr diff in an s13 subframe, let me know how you did it.

Thanks
Michael

Im setting about re installing my r32 gtr rear hubs today. Had to remove them to get the damn tie rod ball joints pressed out so i can take a look at the spline and get back to you.

with my old s13 i was going to bolt in a complete r32 rear cradle instead of just doing the diff, and I was told the rear cradle just bolts in

Thanks anyway but im not interested in swapping the whole rear end. Its just extra work to do, and im not aware of any extra benefits of doing it. Unless someone can enlighten me?

I want to put the gtr diff in my s13 cradle, and use the gtr driveshafts. What i need to know, is will i need to change the hubs to gtr items? Im currently running rear 5 stud conversion with unknown nissan 5 stud hubs) on rear with standard s13 driveshafts. Any ideas?

to use a GTR diff ur going to pretty much need the full rear end

the GTsT diff will bolt str8 in but the GTR diff will need to be bolted into the GTR sub frame
when i done my conversion i went with the full rear end

Hi Kemp. Thanks for the response. From the research I have done, you are able bolt a gtr diff in the s13 cradle. However, to do this, you need to swap the r32 gtr rear hosuing with that of an s13. Once this is done, it will bolt up to the cradle, however you need to use longer bolts and spacer/washers for the two main bolts.

The reason for using spacers/washers on the two main bolts is to solid mount the diff. As the gtr diffs have rubber bushings around all point of contact to the subframe. This is the opposite on the S13 diffs, which are full solid mounted to the cradle. If you mount the rear of the r32 gtr diff with the s13 housing, this means the rear is solid mounted and the front is rubber which allows for movement in the front of the diff. This is said to cause the rear housing (aluminum) to take the stress of the movement and crack the housing. This is the reason for the washers/spacers. See pic below

Thoughts?

oh i know wat u mean so u wanna pull the GTR diff center and put it inside the S13 diff housing
if its been done B4 i dont see why it cant be done again
a full GTR rear end will cost u around 1000buxs and u will end up with a thicker drive shafts
and ive neva seen a GTR drive shaft snap so is it realli worth it doing all that work when u can get a full GTR rear end for 1000buxs or undeR?

GTR drive shafts have different number of splines where it goes into the hubs. Hence you would need the GTR hubs.

i just put an R32 GTS-T diff with R33 GTS-T shafts (5bolt flange) into my S13, used the factory R32/S14 front bushes to mount it along with S13 R200 diff hat, all went together fine, but as said the GTR diff's are different again, sure you could bolt up the S13 diff hat, get the 5 bolt shafts (GTS-T) to suit (if you have 6 bolt S13) and change the front flange over too, but after all that effort why not just use another diff like a GTS-T one, the reason for GTR diff is to use the shafts aswell cause they are stronger - diff strength i dont know about

However upon me saying all that, my LH drive shaft or half shaft cup into diff, broke this evening on way to gym, could still partially drive, but just owed it home (1kay thank god), annoying thing is i have an SR20DE S13 with NO power and wasn't even thrashing it at the time, oh well pull it out tomorrow and find out, too wet now

Will the gtr cradle bolt straight in? I gather its a 32 gtr cradle or will 33's etc fit? Any other mods needed to do this?

i am pretty sure that the r33 cradles won't fit. pretty sure they are bigger than the r32 ones.

what would be the best place to get the r32 rear end from? i am planning to do this once i have my motor etc. plan on r32 rear cradle with r33/4 gtr brakes all round.

the R32 cradle bolted str8 in with out any problems wat so ever then the R33 diff bolted to the cradle with out any problems wat so ever
i went with the R33 v spec diff because my mate just smashed his car and he offered it to me

Haha Kemp. You still dont quite get what im doing! :P

I have a r32 gtr diff here with a tomei 2way inside. I am going to change the rear housing (the bit that you unbolt to inspect the diff) and put the r32 diff in my s13 cradle.

I also want to run the gtr driveshafts, as discussed they are much thicker and beefier.

What i need to know is this: Are R32 GTR hubs required to allow fitment of the r32 gtr axles?

I can get the gtr driveshafts and hubs for $200, so this would be the most cost effective way to get the diff in i think, and i cant see any other benefits buying a whole cradle and bolting that in.

Just curious, are you running r32 coilovers or s13 in the back. Did you have to change something to do this, as the r32 gtr have a different coilover setup.

oh OK now im starting to get it
yes u will need R32 GTR hubs because the drive shafts wont fit into the S13 hubs because the GTR shaft is thicker

and im using S13 coilovers didnt have to change nothing

Good man. Thanks for the help. I'll get onto these bits and get it done asap.

Also, another questions if anybody knows.

If you swap the input flange (where the tailshaft bolts up to) on the r32 gtr diff, to an s13 input flange. Will the standard tailshaft still bolt up to it?

^ im not sure on that one because ive neva tryed a conversion like urs
im using a GTR tail shaft all we did was take it to a tail shaft workshop and got them to cut it down and balance it again
think u might have u try and see if it will fit and if it doesnt ur gonna have to take to a workshop and can modify it so that it fits

but from going of wat u said
it should fit but dont quote me on this
i would just give it a go and if it doesnt fit just go from there

Ok. Cool.

Is there any difference in strength between the s13 input flange and the gtr one?

Also, would have any ideas in the handbrake problem im having a few posts down?

the GTR tail shaft is thicker its some where around 4inch thick so it would be stronger

Str8e180

Ive asked before so I will again now this has come up again how is yours a r32 gtr rear craddle if it doesnt have hicas?

how are you using s13 style coilovers if r32 gtr's have a different setup?

how m i using S13 coilovers in a R32 craddle? i have no idea, every thing bolted together fine with out any problems
as i can see from the picture i have posted u can see the tein coilover it bolted str8 up with the GTR craddle

Ok. I need to get the front part of the tailshaft made up to fit the new gbox.

Would it be better to go for a single piece tailshaft, because if i retain the gtr input flange on the diff (where tailshaft bolts to) , I would also have to get this made up.

Would the GTR input flange be stronger than the s13 4 bolt design?

yeah its beter to have a single piece shaft, mines a single piece shaft the only downside about it is having to remove the shaft if u need to do a gearbox or some thing
i had to drop the gearbox down abit to get the tail shaft out but im using a GTsT box so it might be different for u

also how does the tailshaft enter the gearbox? does it have a yoke or is it similar to the rb25?
