ARC side mount intercooler - s15 How good? should I?
#1

So I’m up for my next mod – intercooler and engine management. (current mods: full exhaust, pod)
Looking for an intercooler that I don’t have to go through the battery tray – heard of a number of people getting done for this (head F**k to reverse)! !
Was thinking about either the ARC intercooler that hooks back up to standard piping (but then I’ll be chucking my standard air box back on – need to keep my car lookin legal), or an ARC Side mount intercooler (and keep my pod). Does anyone here run either of these?
I don’t know how much power I can push out with a side mount?
The other issue is, either of these coolers are so bloody hard to find! Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
JC
p.s. don’t tell me to just go through the battery tray – I want to keep my car stealth and looking legal.

So I guess you know you can only have either AM intercooler or pod in melb to stay legal, that's why you are looking for a SMIC to sneak through.
I don't have it, but it will definitely be better than stock, although a FMIC will be much better for the same amount of money.
You can still be defected if they know how to look.

Yeah I know it illegal to have AM cooler + Pod, that’s why I want a SMIC – at least it’s just a little less obvious.
In all the cruises I’ve been to, and all I’ve read, I haven’t seen any s15 with an aftermarket SMIC. Was just hoping someone here had one and could tell me how much power you can push with one.
My other option is to go for the ARC that uses the standard piping (and revert back to standard airbox) – do you think standard airbox with something like a K&N filter would limit my power gains greatly?
Mr Chew – Thanks for the site, good prices too.

Worked a treat, it was the same height and lenght of the stock cooler but was heaps thicker.
No lag and could handle up to 220rwkw.
It was quite expensive though.

Aftermarket intercoolers are good because they allow you to up the boost further. So power gains, AMIC > pod filter of cuz.

Where did you get the Blitz SMIC from?
Do you guys think the ARC FMIC that uses factory piping would be laggy?

shortest pipe length..
massive increase in response compared to other FMIC i had
... looks stock from outside
keep the airbox...

Got the Blitz SMIC off roguepi bout 2 years ago... The arc front mount that i have seen runs along the front twice plus the hot pipe from the turbo, so after the air is cooled by the FMIC it has to travel a fair distance before it enters the TB and will more likely heat back up again...

you know i can always get you one
if you want quality ill make you one
fact is they ant a cheap kit to make and leave sitting waiting for a customer to buy it
most customers want gauges installed or temp sensors in the coolers so you cant weld up a full kit and expect
ppl to buy it, its like the cheap hybrid piping. theres no nipple for the wastegate on it..
small things like that matter to many customers
eron sick ill chuck on the taiwan made manifold as well while im there
ppl spend 1000's on their motors and want top quality items. but when it comes to ns everyone wants cheap shinny stuff dont matter if it really works or not

I myself have spent tens of thousands on both my GTi-R and my R32 SR20 powered 4 door.
That said I'm using many Chinese/Taiwanese products that we sell on the cars as are the thousands of customers that we have dealt with over the years. I certainly wouldn't be using them if they were nothing but top quality.
P.S for the record we are working on a kit but it will be quite a while off yet
