I was looking for this thread, I want to know why we can't get Daihatsu Boon X4s into Australia - The successor to the Charade GTTI. And I want to know why Daihatsu discontinue their best model cars in such a short period :S

Theoretically they can be done, as Daihatsus aren't sold here any more. I'm doing a bit of digging on the Kei trucks and some of the newer models at the moment.

Mirage Cyborg - getting old now, and not enough left in Japan to make it worth a workshop's while getting plates for them.

Mitsubishi Eclipse - min $20K to convert it to RHD - would you pay $40K for an Eclipse when you can buy an Evo for half that money?

Hey Iron Chef,

Curious whether a Mazdaspeed Familia would be elidgable for import? There was only every 209 made.

Exterior wise there isnt a whole lot different, but engine wise, suspenion and interior wise yes. Suck if i have to go live in NZ just to import one.

Cheers Kris.

Pretty sure you can get c32's under the pre '89 rule. Out of the rest pretty sure only c35's are eligible.

Also some kei cars would be awesome.

Any idea as to whether a Mark X would be eligible?

They blow any equivalent Aus Toyotas out of the water.

S15 Spec S (non-turbo).

How come we can't get this in Australia? I've heard people say the Autechs can be imported but not the non-turbo Spec S'.

Refer to 15 year old import rule.

Unlikey. Too similar to an existing full-volume model.

NA S14 - We got S14s here as a full-volume import, so no.

Cappucino - Getting on in age, prices are going up, getting hard to find. May not be economical to get approval for.

ST205 GT4 - As above. If Toyota Australia got in early, and brought them out here close to their release date in Japan, you've got no hope.

Autechs meet the minimum power to weight ratio criteria for approval. The Spec-S does not.

Can you import non-turbo JZX100's? Or would they have a too-low power to weight ratio too?

I was kind of hoping for a Mark II. Can they be imported in the 1jz-ge or 2jz-ge variants?
