I'm sure some of this has already been dealt with before and I found that nice article in the articles section as well, but that didn't give me an answer to all questions either.

So, I have a '91 PS13 that came out with SR20DE and auto tranny.
And I have an RPS13 blacktop SR20DET with 5speed manual tranny to throw in the Silvia.

Currently my progress is as follows:

-I have removed the auto tranny (what a pain in the a**...got an ATF bath, yeah go ahead and laugh! :cursing: )
-I have removed the SR20DE engine
-Removed the SR20DE wiring harness (the SR20DET came with a harness which is good because of the direct ignition that the SR20DE doesn't have)

Next I will be fighting my way with the clutch master cylinder and clutch hardlines..have to build my own lines because I live in Europe so I don't have a decent source of RHD clutch lines :D
But that's not really my problem, the thing that gives me gray hair is...electrics (go figure)

Since my engine and harness is from an RPS13, there might be some differences already just because of that, and the firts one I noticed was that the RPS13 seems to have a fuse box on the left side too. My original SR20DE engine harness ends in 3 connectors in the front left corner, and the SR20DET harness that I got had those connectors too but also had a fuse box there. Can I just discard the fuse box and use the one that I have originally next to the battery?

Also, when I removed the original harness, I noticed that there was a strange connector in the footwell, about 30cm from the ECU, right before the hole where the harness goes through the firewall and into the engine bay. The connector was (if memory serves) white and it's located basically behind the a/c blower, between the dash and firewall. The problem is that the SR20DET harness doesn't have that connector at all.
So my first thought was that maybe my original harness had it because of the E-AT electronic auto tranny? If so, then I won't have to worry about it at all i hope. Anyone have any idea?

Another problem occurred when I removed the auto tranny. It seems that the auto tranny harness is fixed in the tranny, whereas in the manual you basically just have the sensors in the tranny and the engine bay's harness goes down to the box. And since my manual box is from a Japanese wrecker, the wires have just been cold-bloodedly cut near the sensors. So I need to draw new wires for every sensor, so I'd be grateful if someone would provide me with a clear guide to that. 3 sensors: vehicle speed sensor, neutral switch and reverse switch. Where do the wires have to go?

I basically believe that I can sort this out sooner or later, haven't actually even given it much thought yet (actually just popped the engine and box out the other night), but I know that there are people here who have done it so naturally, any help is appreciated.

Cheers, Filk

Hey c'mon, there should be a bunch of people here who have done the same swap!
Here's a couple pics of the connectors, anyone wanna point out exactly what to connect to those? Since I have to make all new wires for the sensors in the manual box.

You guys need to get the wiring diagrams from the 240sx (US) workshop manual and go through your harness wire by wire. You can find this online for free. I am in the process of doing this now and it not too easy but still it is not too hard either. The A/T control box from the auto (near the ECU) can be discarded and just leave the plug hanging or you can cut the wires out if you want. It is not needed for the manual.
You need to find the neutral/park sense wires that go to the ECU and jump them to each other or you cannot start the car.

Depending on your level of modification there can be many loopholes with the wiring like the fuel pump relay if you intend on going to 044 external pump.
You really need to read the manual to understand the implications of each change to the electrics.

Feel free to ask me about specific electrical problems/ wires and I will do my best to help you out if I can.
I am in the middle of mating a harness from a 180sx auto front cut to S13 Q auto rear cut harness and fitting it all to a SR20DET engine harness and ECU.

It is a nightmare at first but once you attack it one wire at a time it becomes more simple. Get a good multi meter and start tracing your 12v from each wire with ign on and off.

I will take some photos of where these plugs go from my car and post them for you.
I know one is for the starter and one is for the alternator. The three vertical mounted ones I need to confirm but I think they are for air con etc.
Let me get back to you tonight with some facts as I'm almost finished the electrics on the S13.

I have some answers here if your still interested??

The three plugs on the firewall side of the fuse box that you had a photo of are for the following, from top to bottom: Revolution sensor, Inhibitor sensor, Automatic transmission solenoid.

The one you need to jump the pins on is the middle one, the inhibitor sensor connector as this will send a constant neutral/park signal to the start system so you can start the car.

Will advise on the rest shortly.

Rgds, Povo.
