Hey guys I'm thinking of buying new Nismo engine mounts while the engine is out and replacing the old ones. I think g-13 sells them for around $285 without the gearbox mount which I'd like but because of the 33 box I can't use.

Currently I have CA engine mounts in, but im putting a 200sx SR20DET.

You guys think that this upgrade is worth it? Like what are the benefits or is it just added strength minimising engine movement in the bay under high loads on track etc.

edit: tried a search in the tech forums but nothing came up. using nismo + engine mounts

If your going to do an engine conversion then now is the best time to change the mounts for nismo's, from my understanding they will have a longer life expectancy as well
Correct me if i'm wrong

Cheers
Josh

helps to stop the engine moving around...
mainly i think to stop the manifold cracking
thats the main reason i can think off the top of my head
also i guess to help increase regidity
i'm sure there are other reasons

My engines out currently as well, is it worth changing to the nismo engine mounts if I already have a engine damper?

For sure it's worth changing.
The engine damper is insurance for the engine mounts, slowing down the process of them vibrating to death under high revs.
The nismo engine mounts (30-40%) stiffer than stock, reduce the engine vibration which provides a more direct transfer of the power into the driveline.
The nismo g/box mount makes the shift of gears under heavy load more precice through the cut in vibration it delivers.

This site has them and some other nismo goodies also. ;)

Are there any downsides to having heavy duty engine mounts?

The main reason for them is to stop torque twist. They prevent the engine from moving under heavy load and push more torque down the driveline.

It's a minor upgrade and the only down side is that you may get more vibration through the car. It may also make the car a little louder from the vibration.

If you have an engine damper. I don't really see the point. Unless they are broken and you would be replacing them anyway.

the Nissan mounts are so soft I reckon they come broken from factory! :)

I installed the NISMO mounts when I had the engine out, makes the shifting a whole lot easier and should last alot longer than the originals would have if they werent already broken :P

They are also meant to be benificial if you are running alot of power, so even if you are not now it would be good for the future. When I was asking about them most people said it's only the gearbox mount that will give you a huge increase in vibration.

I dont notice any unwanted vibration... It doesn't seem to be any more than the stock mounts, although it was a few months between driving.

I think it would be the gearbox mount that causes the most vibration, but i still think i will go one of these as I can probably live with it!

have been told engine damper makes your engine mounts wear out quiker. to start with youll find the damper works fine though 6 months down the track youll need new mounts,

just bought a damper myself so its not in untill i get some nismo mounts

cheers

Abit off topic. Have you got an RB25DET gearbox behind an CA18? What does it take to complete this conversion ?

youll know when yoiur engine mounts a gone, your engine shakes around badly. open your bonnet and rev the car with the throttle cable and see the engine dance. if the engine shakes a little its ok

cheers

Aren't they meant to make your mounts last longer?
